ZOMBIE PROM!


Come to the Zombie Prom! The Monroe Library Meeting Room will be transformed on October 29th, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., for an evening of Halloween fun! Non-Zombie costumes are welcome, naturally - be creative!

Refreshments will feature ghastly Halloween treats and there will be door prizes,music, and more! This event has been planned by the MTPL Teen Advisory Group, and is open to student residents in grades 7-12. Visit them on Facebook at MTPL TAG.

Become a Math and Reading Buddy!

Need community service hours or an after school activity? Like working with kids? Become a Math and Reading Buddy!

Math and Reading Buddies individually pairs high school volunteer tutors with elementary students who need to practice math or reading skills. To be a tutor, you just have to speak English clearly, be comfortable doing elementary math and/or reading, and enjoy working with younger kids.

The Fall tutoring session begins the week of October 4th, so please get your applications in as soon as you can! You will be notified about your Buddy two weeks prior to the start of the session.

Summer Events at the Library!

Teen Central Reading Rewards registration is now open at the reference desk!
There are also other events going on at the Library this summer! From book discussions to TAG (Teen Advisory Group) meetings and the Teen Crochet Project (see image below), there are lots of ways to get involved.

Harry Potter vs Twilight Party THIS FRIDAY!!

We'll be hosting a Harry Potter vs. Twilight Party for teens (grades 7 -12) on Friday, June 11 from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm.
Join us for TRIVIA . . . PRIZES . . . FOOD . . . and FUN!
We'll also be having a costume contest that night (but costumes are not required for the party).

More Volunteer Opportunities at the Library!

We're looking for middle school (and high school!) volunteers for the Youth Services Department over the summer for one to two hours a week. Volunteers will help the librarians out with storytimes and other programs, work on preparing arts and crafts, and more.

If you like working with kids and want to do some community service, this is the opportunity for you!

Volunteers needed for Math and Reading Partners this Summer!

Need community service hours? Like kids? Want something to do this summer? Become a Math or Reading Partner!

Math and Reading Partners is a summer program for children finishing Grades K-5. Students are individually paired with an adult or high school volunteer from the community who will help them practice their math skills and/or reading skills over the summer months. The Youth Services Department hopes that you will consider participating in this successful program!

Volunteer applications may be picked up at the Youth Services Desk or downloaded here. Applications are due Friday, May 14th.

Join Teen Library Advisors! And - Share your creative writing and art!

Next Meetings: Monday, April 12, 7-8 p.m. OR Tuesday, April 13, 4-5 p.m.

Students in grades 7-12 are invited to make Teen Central even better! Our new Teen Library Advisors group is working on new ideas. Come share the excitement!

At their first meeting, they suggested a Library-generated Teen Literary Magazine. Presto! We are now proudly accepting original writing and art from middle and high school students, to be published here as soon as we get enough. So drop off your essays, poems, sketches, stories, cartoons at the Reference Desk, attention Sue Grotyohann, or email them to sgrot(at)monroetwplibrary.org! Imagine – our own Teen Zine!
