Teen Tech Week!

If you are in grades 7 to 12, try the Monroe Township Library's "Tech Challenge" during Teen Tech Week in March! From Monday, March 7th to Friday, March 11th, the Library will post a challenge for you to try from home, school or the Library, using the Internet and mobile devices. Do one day or try all five that week! Participants who get the daily challenge correct will be able to pick out a prize from the prize cart. Those who master all five will be entered into a grand prize drawing for an iTunes gift card!

MONDAY’S CHALLENGE:

Find a book trailer for one of your favorite books and email us the link! Send the web address to: teens@monroetwplibrary.org

Hints:

· A book trailer is like a movie preview but for a book!

· Having problems finding book trailers? Do a Google search for “book trailer” and the title of your favorite book!

Teen Tech Week Tech Challenge - win an iTunes gift card!

Every day after 2 pm during Teen Tech Week (Monday, March 6 to Friday, March 11), we will post a daily tech challenge for you to try, using the Internet and mobile devices!

Volunteers Needed for Math and Reading Buddies Spring Session

Need community service hours or an after school activity? Volunteer as a tutor in the Math and Reading Buddies program!

Math and Reading Buddies individually pairs high school volunteers with students in grades 1-6 who need help building skills in math and/or reading. Buddies usually meet once a week during a ten week session, for 30 to 60 minutes each meeting. Buddies are matched based on mutual availability and make their own schedules. No experience is necessary to volunteer, you just have to be in high school, enjoy math or reading and working with kids.

Upcoming March Teen Events!

During the month of March, Monroe Library’s Teen Central area is proud to feature original student art from Middlesex County Arts High School and Arts Middle School. This annual show highlights work by talented students from around the county. It is always a treat!

On Wednesday, March 2, create a masterpiece for the Waffle Art Show! Use toothpicks and fresh-baked waffles to build an edible sculpture. Drop by the Activity Room between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. and show your skills! Drop-In Gaming will not meet tonight. No registration needed.

From Sunday to Sunday, March 6 through March 12, the Library will celebrate Teen Tech Week. This annual event, sponsored by the American Library Association, focuses on new technology, and some of the surprising ways it can be used. Students in grades 7-12 may complete an intriguing, multi-part Teen Tech Challenge. Chose from the prize cart for each correct segment – complete all five correctly and be entered in a drawing for an iTunes gift card!

Monday, March 7, the Teen Advisory Group will meet in the Library Conference Room from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. This group of middle and high school students meets monthly to plan activities for fellow teens throughout the year. Drop in for a fun evening – no need to register, and feel free to bring a friend! Munchies are always served.

The Teen Central area will host Cozy Corner Crafts with Karen on a drop-in basis each Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. Teens are welcome to bring a new or existing portable project, such as crochet, knitting, or cross-stitch. They can get hands-on help, or just work with alongside other creative teens. On February 7, follow the instructor to the TAG meeting at 7:00 p.m. to learn what other fun activities are being planned!

On Wednesday, March 9, students in grades 7-12 may enjoy a Gaming Mash-Up in the Meeting Room between 6-8 p.m. This will be instead of our usual Drop-In Gaming program in Teen Central, which normally happens every Wednesday between 6-8 p.m. No registration needed.

On Tuesday, March 15, from 7:30-8:30 p.m., students are invited to “Cookies and a Book.” Gather and talk about the hilarious misadventures of bully magnet Scott in Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie, by David Lubar. Scott’s freshman year is one to remember! Copies are on display in Teen Central. The chat is open to students in grades 7-12. Registration is online at www.monroetwplibrary.org, or call the Reference Desk at 732-521-5000 to sign up. Snacks will be served!

Drop-In Gaming in Teen Central will return on Wednesday, March 16 and Wednesday, March 23. Come by between 6-8 p.m. and join the fun!

Beginning Tuesday March 22, Monroe students in grades 7-12 are invited to participate in our second Teen Take-Out Project. These are monthly mini-workshops-in-a-box for creative teens. This month, take home materials to create Faux Sushi! By cutting, wrapping, and gluing strips of the felt provided, students can make clever decorations that can be displayed in a dish, glued to magnets for the fridge, or used as cute cat toys! Take-Out Boxes will be available for pickup after 2:00 p.m. at the Reference Desk, while supplies last.
